Xavier Oberson

Professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Geneva


Xavier Oberson is a Professor of Swiss and international tax law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Geneva since 1995. He is also the founder and director of the LL.M. in Tax Law of the University of Geneva.

Professor Oberson holds a PhD from the University of Geneva and an LL.M. and ITP from Harvard Law School, he is a lawyer in the bar of Geneva and an associate in a law firm specialised in tax law. He has worked as a judge for the “Commission fédérale de recours en matières de contributions” and as a president for the experts committee “Rechtsformneutrale Beteuerung”. He has also been a member of the experts group “Collaboration international en matière fiscal” founded by the Federal Council in March 2009.

Professor Oberson is a member of the editorial board of the Revue de droit administrative et droit fiscal (RDAF). He is also the president of the “Journée de droit fiscal” co-organised with the Ordre romand des experts fiscaux (OREF) to which he is a member.

He is a member, among others to the Permanent Scientific Committee of the International Fiscal Association (IFA), to the Advisory Council of the International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation (IBFD), to the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and to the International Academy of Estate and Trust Law (IAETL).

In 2012, Professor Oberson was awarded the “STEP Private Client Awards, the Geoffrey Schindler Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Profession”.
